FOCUS Cummer hosted "A Spring Garden Party (Garden Hats De Rigueur)" on Thursday, April 26th at the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens. The Annual meeting/party began with the election of new officers which was followed by a lecture on Impressionism from Mrs Debra Murphy PhD. A tour of the museum's collections was provided by the Cummer staff which led to an elegant dinner party. Also a gift of $16,000 dollars was given to the museum by a charitable patron. But fate reared it's ugly head when a sudden gust of wind blew the check into the adjoining wading pool. Undaunted, the museum's curator braved the cold water for her prize.

With aggressive baserunning and timely hits, the Orange Park High School Raider softball team, led by seniors Lexi Taylor's pitching and Chelsea Bardroff's run-scoring double with two fielding errors, outdid the Oakleaf High Lady Knights 4-2 in their region 1-6A semifinal clash Friday afternoon at Oakleaf. Oakleaf's season ends at 22-7 while the resurgent Raiders, 13-14 for the year, continue into the region finals.

Cookie, an 11 year old Chow rescue belonging to John and Cheryl Pastore was undergoing stem cell transplant procedure by Craig Price, DVM at his Middleburg veterinary hospital Wednesday morning, April 11, 2012. During the procedure plasma was harvested from Cookie's blood and stem cells were taken from fat tissue removed from her body cavity, and the two were processed by a technician from MediVet America to be injected into Cookie's hips and leg joints with the hopes of regenerating the areas that now cause the dog a great deal of pain.

Hanlin was seriously injured and White was killed during a confrontation at the house that held the lab.

Pictured is newcomer Tara Green, a Lake Asbury Junior High School employee running for Clay County clerk of the court, an office given up by James Jett, who is running for U.S. Congress. Among the other candidates were county commissioner hopefuls including Diane Hutchings, a local financial advisor and former Green Cove Springs mayor, school board incumbents and George Bush, a former commissioner now running for clerk of court. Sherrie Porter, a legislative aide to U.S. Congressman Cliff Stearns is the president of the FRWC. Bean is running for the District 5 seat being opened by term-limited Steven Wise.

5,000 run Step Up 5km in Oakleaf

On a beautiful sunny morning, nearly 5,000 runners took part in the annual Step Up 5km running race and 1.5 mile kids run in its new location at Oakleaf Plantation. Runners were treated to a two lane highway start, an overpass, a trot around the Oakleaf recreation soccer fields and a track finish, plus a visit from US Olympic gold medal gymnast Shannon Miller and rock band Molly Hatchet front man Bobby Ingram.

Ridgeview fought to a 1-1 tie before winning 2-1 with a goal near the end of the second 10-minute overtime period against Orange Park High in the district 4A-3 semifinals Wednesday night at Fleming Island High School. Fleming Island won 8-0 against Middleburg in the second semifinal game. The championship game, RHS v FIHS, is scheduled for Thursday Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. at FIHS.
